Biography
Dr. Theresia Tzatzani is a researcher at the Institute of Olive, Subtropical Plants, and Vine of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization (ELGO) “DEMETER.” She holds a degree in Agriculture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and pursued her postgraduate studies in the physiology of the multiplication of subtropical species.
Since 2017, she has been responsible for the Laboratory of Subtropical Plants and Tissue Culture at ELGO “DEMETER” in Chania, which serves as the national conservator for the collections of subtropical species in Greece.
Her research focuses on the study of subtropical species with cultivation potential in Greece, specifically:
- The ex situ conservation and enrichment of the National Collections of Avocado, Prickly Pear, Mulberry, Mango, Carob, Banana, Cherimoya, Pecan, Date Palm, Feijoa, Guava, Carambola, Macadamia, and Lychee.
- The creation and evaluation of new varieties and subjects with the aim of improving earliness, adaptability to new climatic conditions, enhancing quality, and developing resistance to biotic and abiotic stress.
- The maintenance and production of healthy plant propagating material.
- The study and application of innovative propagation methods.
- The study and evaluation of innovative formulations to increase the quality and yield of crops.
