Giannis Manetas

Bio

Yiannis Manetas was born in Athens in 1947. He studied Physiology and Geography at the University of Athens and earned his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Patras in 1976. From 1978 to 2014, he worked at the same university. In 1993, he was elected as a Professor of Plant Physiology. He has also conducted research at the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos,” the Experimental Station “Abisco” in Lapland, and the Universities of Stirling (Scotland), Göteborg (Sweden), Essen, and Karlsruhe (Germany).

His books published by the University of Crete Press include “What Alice Would See in the Land of Plants” (1st edition 2010, 6th edition 2023), which has been translated into English, “Plant Stories – Little Stories About Plants That Changed the World” (1st edition 2014, 5th edition 2019), “Life Today, Once Upon a Time, Elsewhere, and in the Future – The Logic of Biological Systems” (2019), and “The Symbiotic Adventure – The Origin of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and Their Biological and Social Consequences” (2023). He has also written the novels “The Night Gingko Biloba Embraced” (Aiora 2017) and “The Moment and the Mark” (Kedros 2022).
